EXCURSIONS

The excellent attendance of the 2008 excursions is most gratifying. We are currently looking at options for 2009 which will be published in the last newsletter of the year, but we are also open to any suggestions from members.

The general principle is that there should be varied educational focus, and that the distance from Pretoria warrants the hiring of a bus rather than the use of individual transport.

The R75 bus fare must be paid by the due date either by direct deposit, Internet transfer or cheque [made out to U3A Pretoria]. Proof of payment must be posted to U3A Pretoria, Box 95570 Waterkloof, 0145 or scanned and emailed to rosgeo@vodamail.co.za

Please note that it is not possible to refund the bus fare and other pre-paid costs in the case of cancellations unless the cost of the bus has been covered by number of participants, in which case a credit will then be given towards a later excursion. U3A cannot refund members directly as our savings account does not offer transfer facilities.

Only U3A members may participate in excursions.

FOR ALL EXCURSIONS IN 2008:

1. Please also make sure that you arrive at 9am as we depart promptly at 9.15am. In the case of an emergency, please telephone the number given next to each excursion. We anticipate returning between 14.30 and 15.00.

2. Meet in front of the CUM bookshop in the SE corner of Menlyn Retail Centre [Lois / Garstfontein Rd] [NOTE: NOT MENLYN PARK in Atterbury Rd]. Car guards are in attendance while we are away.

Tswaing Crater: Thursday 24 July.  Contact person: Gill Udal 082 5784192

The refreshment kiosk is currently closed.

 Bring: R15 entrance fee, drinks, a light picnic lunch, sunhat and walking shoes if you would like to stroll around the crater rim. However the crater can be viewed within an easy 5 minute walk from the bus, with benches and rocks to sit on during John Vogel’s talk.

The annual Lavender Festival is being held the following Saturday so the gardens should be at their best.

Bring: R40 for a themed tea and a talk which has been specially arranged for the group by Margaret Roberts. Please note that only herbal teas are offered with light refreshments!

Wits Origins Centre: Thursday 13 November

This centre presents aspects of Wits core research to the general public in a world class museum. Of particular interest is the focus on rock art. Details of the excursion will be given in the next newsletter.
