In a nutshell, U3A is a learning co-operative for "Third Agers" (retired people). Its objective is to be a university in the original sense of the word - a community of teachers and learners - sharing interests and enthusiasms. It has been found that there is a very real need for accessible and stimulating opportunities at the stage in life when people have a little more free time for self-development.

Quarterly meetings are held at the
Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2009 of U3A
Pretoria will take place at 9:15 for 10:00 on Thursday 28 May at the BROOKLYN METHODIST CHURCH, 209 MURRAY ST The official business of the meeting will be
followed by a talk by Professor Fred Reyers, Professor Emeritus
University of Pretoria, The title of his talk will be "Melamine
Poisoning: Avarice and Science in the Global
Village". Prof Reyers, a registered Veterinary Pathologist who served on
the WHO meeting of experts on Melamine toxicity, will give a glimpse of the
science and detective work used to discover what was causing the deaths and
illness of pets and infants.

A day of varied experiences:
U3A Pretoria members were recently
entertained by the star performers of the Bird Show at Montecasino and then
educated through a most informative tour of the Russian Orthodox Church in
Midrand.
