Plettenberg   Bay.

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is learning co-operative for people from all walks of life.  No qualifications are needed and none are awarded.  U3A exists for those who haven’t forgotten that learning is fun!  It has proved to be enormously popular in many parts of the world.  In the UK alone there are over 100,000 members.  The basis of U3A is small study and discussion groups on an unlimited range of topics.  These ongoing, community-based groups (and other U3A activities such as workshops and outings) are led by volunteers with expertise and enthusiasm.  All activities, including open meetings on subjects of general interest, take place on weekdays. Costs are minimal and no-one gains financially from the organization.  The sole benefit is intellectual stimulation.

The objective of U3A is thus to be a university in the true sense of the word – a community of teachers and learners sharing their interests and enthusiasms.  Experience has shown that there is a very real need for accessible and simulating learning opportunities at a stage in life when people can expect to have a little more free time for self-development.

The annual subscription to U3A Plettenberg Bay is R55.00.  Some small additional outlays may be incurred to defray costs such as photocopying of course notes, travel if required for a particular course.
