NEWSLETTER NUMBER ONE: 2008
1. The Committee wishes all members a happy and successful learning year in 2008. The Programme for the period January to April is attached. We hope that you will find at least one course that will be on interest and benefit to you. A second email will reach you in the next day or so, giving more details of some of the courses. “Dead tree” (i.e. paper) copies will be available at every meeting and class throughout this period.
2. The Committee wishes to stress a specific point to all members. U3A: Overberg does not believe that any resident of the Overberg wishing to join it should be prevented from doing do so for financial reasons. In terms of our Constitution we are empowered to offer lower fees or free membership to applicants unable to pay the full fees. Please contact the Chairman if you wish to take advantage of this possibility.
3. We have had an encouraging response to our request for a member to hanle meetings and projection at the Stardust Venue and will certainly have someone in place by the time courses begin.
4. The Membership Database will now be managed by Prof. Tim Moelwyn-Hughes and he will be keeping track of changes in details and sending out Programmes, Weekly Reminders and Newsletters. If you have any issue relating to your membership please contact Tim on 028 316 2494 or moelwyn@tiscali.co.za
5. Following on from our trips to Sutherland and various courses about the nature of the universe a group of members have decided to establish the Hermanus Astronomy Club. 6. Finally, the Committee makes a final request to members to renew memberships for 2007/8. Membership is R100 to 31 December 2008. A Renewal Form is attached for convenience- if you have renewed thank you and delete the form.
