12 August   PROFESSOR ADELE THOMAS

She is Professor of Business Management at the University of Johannesburg and the former Director of the Wits Business School.  Adèle has worked in both the corporate and the non-profit sectors, previously being the Director of the Johannesburg Child Welfare Society. She holds the following degrees: B.A. (Social Work) (cum laude), M.A. (cum laude), MBA and D. Litt et Phil.

Adèle consults to a number of blue chip companies in South Africa in the areas of employment equity, managing diversity, organisational culture, corporate governance and business ethics.

THE CHALLENGE OF GOVERNANCE:  LEADERSHIP OR TICKING THE BOXES?

Recent corporate scandals have focused the spotlight on ethics and governance in organisations, both locally and internationally. 

What is the role of organisational leadership in creating ethical organisations?

She also aims to provoke a consideration of the role of leadership in institutionalising sound corporate governance and the link of such practice to business success.

This will be an interactive presentation and your questions and comments will be encouraged

He is Civil Construction Director, Bombela Turnkey Contractor (Pty) Ltd.  He has a B Sc (Eng) (Civil) degree and is a Professional Engineer.

Chris is a senior project manager with more than 37 years post qualification experience in civil engineering and construction.

From early 2003 he was fully engaged with the Bombela Consortium’s bid for the proposed Gautrain Rapid Rail Link and appointment as Preferred Bidder in July 2005.Ltd.

Chris will give a PowerPoint presentation about this exciting project.  We see the signs that things are happening on the surface but what about underground.  We are notified of blasting operations and complex drilling is taking place, we see ventilation shafts in the Wilds, shops relocating in Rosebank,  stations are being built,  surface railway lines on the way to Pretoria .
