U3A HOWICK
REPORT ON GENERAL MEETING HELD ON WEDNESDAY 8 JULY 2009
At our general meeting held on Wednesday 8 July Roy Tapping gave an interesting and thought-provoking talk on the background and timeline to the bombing of Hiroshima. The morality of such a devastating attack can be argued for all eternity.
A list of current courses is overleaf. Please note the following:
Armchair Travel - 28 July: "A Long Way" (Brian Wakeford's voyage from London to South Africa on a container ship).
.Current Affairs discussions are once again being held at Amber Valley. Sincere thanks to Felicity Fisher who hosted this course at her home in Amberfield for many months
The last session of Bette Riddle's "Composers' Corner" takes place on Wednesday 15 July. A number of people had to be turned away from this course, which is unfortunate as several people who were accepted for the course did not attend all sessions and did not contact Bette to say they would not be there. Please, folk, do let presenters know in good time if you are unable to attend. Signing up for a course IS a commitment and presenters put a lot of time and effort into preparing and presenting our courses.
There will be three more episodes of "A History of Britain" at Amberglen. All members are welcome to attend as there is ample room at this venue.
Brian Frayne is in the process of organising a venue for "Classic Films". He will contact those people who have already registered for this course; telephone Brian if you would like to register.
Please note that members who have not paid fees for 2009 will not receive further notices as it is presumed they are no longer interested.
Our next general meeting will be held on Wednesday 9 September 2009 in St Luke's Anglican Church hall, commencing at 14h30. Our speaker will be Owen Davies, who will be talking on his work as a sculptor.
