Despite a very cold winter we have had enthusiastic members attending many stimulating lectures.
You are reminded to contact the lecture or DVD co-ordinator timeously when the venue is at a home – you will then be certain of having a seat!
A Digital Camera Club has been formed. The first meeting will be held at the home of Tys Lötter, Unit 131, Patrys Street, Sewe Damme, 20 General Beyers Street, at 15h00 on 12 August. These meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of each month in the home of a group member. Only basic “mik en druk” digital cameras will be used. There will be a monthly theme and members can bring their images stored on a memory stick or CD.
Prof Roy Muller has agreed to lead a Literature Discussion Group with a series of three lectures initially. This group will meet on the second Tuesday of the month, the first meeting to be on 8 September 2009 at 10h30 at 39 La Motte Street. A print-out on light verse will be handed out at the first meeting and after a short lecture by Prof Muller, members are free to express their views. The second lecture and discussion in October will be on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” seen as a romantic comedy. Remember it is necessary to phone the co-ordinator.
Prof Cay van der Merwe will be giving a weekly computer course of seven lessons for members who are beginners starting on 9 September at the CUT Computer Centre at 18h00 at R10.00 per lesson. Please ask the security guard at the gate for directions. This course is limited to the first fifteen members who phone.
Our outing for the next session will be at 10h00 on 2 September 2009. A visit has been arranged to Judge Fred Beckley’s farm, Noble House, to see his world class miniature car collection and his stable of Jaguar motor cars. Please contact our co-ordinators, Hedwig van Coller (082 412 3856) or Jackie Badenhorst (082 352 5765) for directions.
We look forward to seeing you.
