TREES OF THE FOREST
Oh, hear our plea, vile men that seek to uproot us.
Listen to the words of wisdom before you add yet another horror to your
atrocities against Nature.
You were given the blue sparkling waters of the sea, but you defiled it.
Green, fertile earth was given to you freely but you scorched it.
Fruit hung heavy on the branches but you poisoned it.
And now, destructive, punitive man, you seek to destroy our forest.
God made us. We were created by a Divine Intelligence and you, little men,
would raise your axes against us.
From time immemorial we have sheltered you. We have helped to build your
homes; given you fruit and shade.
This is our work and we seek to live in harmony with all of God's Creation, but
hear this, O Man.
You are deaf to all but the chink of money and the blaring horn so you will
Not hear our cries of agony as our roots are torn from Mother Earth.
But our sorrow will not go unheeded. The forces of Nature will weep with us
And, assuredly, as you will do unto us, so shall be done unto you.
Our cries will rent the Heavens and in our anguish we shall curse you, O Man
So that as our forest has been desolated, so shall the highway that you build
Upon it bring destruction in its path.
